Drilling Bucket Base Designs Compared: Single vs Double Bottom

Choose a bucket by its diameter and you'll be half right. Choose it by its base design and you'll be all the way right. The base valve determines how much spoil you capture per cycle — and spoil per cycle is the single biggest driver of piling productivity.
Single Bottom (Flap Valve) Buckets
One hinged plate that opens downward on spilling. Strengths: light, simple, fast to dump, easy to clean. Best for clays and stiff cohesive soils where the material holds itself and nothing falls out on lifting. Weakness: in sands and gravels, the flap's tolerance opens with wear and spoil escapes.
Double Bottom (Overlapping Valve) Buckets
Two overlapping plates that shut with overlap rather than butt contact. As the plates wear, they still seal — which is why double-bottom buckets dominate sand, gravel, and mixed formations. They hold fine wet sand that falls straight through a worn single flap.
Reinforced Double-Bottom for High-Abrasion Work
For gravelly desert alluvium and dense sand-gravel mixes, base plates take heavy abrasion. XUANWA's patented double-layer base reinforcement structure (one of six group patents) puts sacrificial wear plate over the load plate — the bucket keeps tolerance roughly twice as long between rebuilds.

In sandy GCC conditions, a worn single-bottom bucket can cut effective spoil per cycle by 30–50%. Switching base design often costs less than one week of lost production.
